Evaluation of an integrated energy system with molten salt battery  energy storage system (ESS) and renewable energy sources

CIEES and Unique Technical Services LLC

South Fork of Long Island  is a high-density residential area facing power shortage in coming years. Due to large summer population, the electricity demand has a distinct seasonal pattern. The imbalance between the average and summer demand will increase as the global warming effect becomes more pronounced: even more electrical power will be required for summer air-conditioning and less power will be needed in the cold season.

Center for Integrated Electrical Systems (CIEES) and Unique Technical Services LLC (UTS) entered a research agreement in order to evaluate feasibility of realizing in-grid energy storage using molten-salt FIAMM batteries provided by NYSERDA. During the project UTS will develop an integrated battery management storage system which will be marketed as a microgrid component.
